The Employment Rights Bill 2024-25 was introduced on 10 October 2024 but is yet to be ratified, including:
- Statutory Sick Pay: The Government propose the removal of the lower earnings limit (LEL) for SSP so that all workers are eligible to claim SSP. Also employees will be eligible to claim it from day one of their absence (currently it can only be claimed from the 4th day of absence)
- Tipping and Gratuities: Ensuring workers receive their tips in full, by requiring employers to consult with workers when developing or revising their tipping policies
The ‘Plan to Make Work Pay’ outlined the Government’s future intentions, including:
- Unpaid internships: a ban on unpaid internships except when they are part of an education or training course.
- National Living Wage: To be linked to the cost of living, with one rate for all workers (i.e. removing the 18-21 age band)
