Director running 19th Great North Run in aid of St Barnabas Hospice Trust (Lincolnshire)
It’s that time of year when Adam Davey is donning his trainers on 10th September to run in the world’s largest half marathon, the Great North Run, for the 19th time once again raising vital funds for St Barnabas Hospice.
St Barnabas Hospice delivers free, high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care and support to more than 9,000 adults with a life-limiting or terminal illness, and their family and carers. They aim to enable them to live as fully as they are able for however many days, weeks or months they have left. The charity has lost millions of pounds since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, so Adam’s fundraising takes on even more significance this year.
The world’s leading half marathon, the Great North Run, was first staged in 1981 where just over 12,000 people took part on the 13.1 mile course from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields, with entries reaching 57,000 people this year.
Adam commented “It’s a fantastic occasion with an amazing atmosphere. My eldest son, Tom is also running this year, so hopefully we’ll be able to cross the finish line together and enjoy a well deserved beer or two afterwards!”.
The Great North Run takes place on Sunday, 10th September 2023 and will be broadcast live on BBC.
