It’s that time of year! Director, Adam Davey, is donning his trainers to run in the world’s largest half marathon, the Great North Run. This will be his 17th time once again raising vital funds for St Barnabas Hospice!

In 2018, he had already raised over £10,000 for St Barnabas so let’s see how much more we can raise this year!

St Barnabas Hospice

St Barnabas Hospice delivers free, high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care and support. They do this to more than 9,000 adults with a life-limiting or terminal illness, and their family and carers.

They enable them to live as fully as possible for however many days, weeks or months they have left.

The Great North Run

The world’s leading half marathon was first staged in 1981 where just over 12,000 people took part! It is a 13.1 mile course from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields.

However, this year, we will see around 57,000 people taking part on the 12th September this year.

To ensure that the Great North Run can go ahead as planned, and that the race is staged safely to allow for social distancing, changes to the iconic half marathon route have been announced for 2021.

The race will now start and finish in Newcastle with runners crossing the Tyne Bridge twice. The route will take in the City Centre on the return leg. It will then finish on the Great North Road with the finishers’ village being built on the Town Moor.

What Adam Thinks

“It’s a fantastic occasion with an amazing atmosphere.  The change of route has been met with a mixed reaction, but as far as I’m concerned, whatever they need to do to ensure the race takes place is fine.  I wouldn’t want to have wasted all the training!!”.

The Great North Run takes place on Sunday, 12th September 2021 and will be broadcast live on BBC.
