Last week, we attended the Doncaster Business Showcase event and in a spur of the moment decision, signed up for the 10TENK challenge. What is that you might ask?
The challenge will see us run 10 x 10k in 12 months – or if you’re Adam, 10 days! – to raise money for The Children’s Air Ambulance charity, a lifesaving transfer service for critically ill babies and children.
They also fly medical teams and bespoke equipment turning our local hospitals into specialist treatment centres.
This initiative has been organised by Doncaster Business in the Community and sponsored by Westfield Health.
“Westfield Health are delighted to help DB4C bring yet another fantastic event to the calendar. Physical activity really is the miracle cure to so many preventable diseases and anything we can do to help get more people active is a positive move.” David Capper, CEO Westfield Health
We have Zoe Temperton, from Westfield Health, to thank for persuading us to sign up. We met Zoe over 7 years ago when we were working in Sheffield, prior to setting up Petaurum.
As with all networking events, it was good to see familiar faces, so we caught up with Zoe, who was there helping her husband, Anthony, as he was exhibiting with his business, KAT Communications.
She kindly gave us a power bank courtesy of KAT Communications, which we might need after all the running to recharge our batteries!
Tim Shaw, Chairman of DB4C commented: “At DB4C we are about improving the health and wellbeing of business employers and their staff and this is an excellent example of our work with a unique challenge to complete ten 10k races in just twelve months.
“It represents an opportunity to not only improve your health and fitness but also to raise much need funds for the Children’s Air Ambulance service.”
We will all be starting the challenge soon and fear not, we can’t get away with just saying we did it! We have to have proof of each 10K run, from running or tracking apps, to submit.
For Mark and Dean, they have 12 months to complete the challenge. But for Adam, with only 10 days on the clock, it might be a tough ask!
Please support this fantastic cause, and support us in this challenge, by donating whatever you can on our JustGiving page here
